Talking about holidays!

-Do you have many holidays in America?

-Yes, quite a lot.

-Tell, about the main ones.

-Well, first comes the New Year’s Day with a lot of noise and merry-making. At midnight we blow whistles, ring bells and sing  songs.

-OK, what comes next?

-Easter, a special religious holiday. It comes in a spring. Easter symbolizes  new life and fresh hope. After Easter comes the summer. It brings us hot days and 4th of July.

-I know about 4th of July. It is America’s Independence Day. What do you do on that holiday?

-We fire cracers and ring bells. We often go on picnics or go swimming. Different funny contests are held. It is really great fun.

-If I am not mistaken, there is another summer holiday` Labor day.

-Right, it comes at the end of the summer. The first Monday in September.

-We usually have parades and picnics on that day. Then comes the fall with it cool days and beautiful colours. They brings us favorite holidays` Halloween and Thanksgiving.

– How do you celebrate these holidays?

-Halloween is  the evening of October 31` the eve of All Saints day. This is the day of fun. At night children pretend to be witches and ghosts. They make jack-o-lanterns out of pumpkin. They put on costumes and masks and play pranks on everybody. They go from house to house, ring the doorbells and yell ‘’trick or treat’’

-Oh, my that sound exciting

-And you have to welcome them all, and give them some sweets or play with them, if you don’t want to have trouble.

-All right, n ow Thanksgiving day, when does it come?

-The 1th Thursday in November, The whole nation gives thanks for good harvest and generous gift of nature. On that day we usually have our biggest feast of the year.

-What do you eat on Thanksgiving?

Oh, roasted turkey , cranberry sauce and a lot of other many things with pumpkin pie for dessert.

-I see it is a paradise for everyone.

-Shortly after Thanksgiving comes Christmas. People furnish their houses and trees with multicolored lights. Santa Clause comes and bring gifts for kids. He puts them in their stockings and under the Christmas tree.

-It must be a happy day!

-Yes, we always like to be with our loved ones on Christmas Day. We laugh and feast and give presents to each other.

-Xmas comes on the 25th of December, doesn’t it?

-Yes, it is the last holiday of the year and perhaps the most popular one.
